Description	:	Ellen Monica Bitters, age 70, of Nevada, formerly of Des Moines, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2020 at Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 27, 2020 at the Adams Funeral Home, 502 Douglas Ave., Ames, Iowa. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Ellen was born January 17, 1950 to parents Eugene and Frances (O’Neill) Conley in Newton, Iowa and graduated in 1969 from Colfax High School, where she was a cheerleader, golfer, homecoming and Cardinal queen, but most of all, a devoted friend. She took college classes at Ellsworth Community College and later moved to Des Moines and attended DMACC. Ellen loved her work at Blue Cross Blue Shield, based in downtown Des Moines, before she retired. Ellen was kind, compassionate, easy-going and had an uncanny ability to make a friend nearly everywhere she went. She loved spending time with her family, tending to her plants, watching The Walking Dead, petting cats and looking at birds — particularly the fat ones. She will be loved and missed by her family and friends forever. Ellen is survived by her daughters, Janice (Tim Turi) Bitters of Redwood City, California; Amber (Mike) Nusbaum of Nevada, Iowa; three grandchildren, Noah, Ellie and Trevor, who brought her boundless joy; her brothers Joe Conley of Ankeny, Iowa and Pat (Robin) Conley of Maxwell, Iowa; her sisters, Thereasa Lukaszewicz of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Mary Conley of Anaheim, California. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, John, James and Eugene Conley. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Adams Funeral Home and online condolences may be left for Ellen’s family at www.adamssoderstrum.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
