Read More	Evening Times; Cumberland, Maryland, Monday, July 27, 1896 SLEEP IN DEATH Ellen Kean an Aged and Well Known Woman is Dead After a lingering illness borne of true ? and fortitude, Ellen Kean, relict of Bartolomew Kean, died this morning at 5 o'clock. Mrs. Kean was born in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland 70 years ago and a half century ago came to Cumberland to live and where she resided until the time of her death, having lived all this time in almost the same locality, the corner of Smallwood and Green streets. The deceased was a devout member of St. Patrick's church and never seemed as happy as when administering to the wants of the needy or comforting the sick and the distressed. She was noted both for her amiable and charitable disposition. ?? woman ever lived that left more friends or was better liked than she whose eyes were closed in death at an early hour this morning. As a wife, the deceased was all that could be desired and as the mother of a large and well known family when she ? bespeak for her all the qualifications of a true and loving mother. Her children living are: Thomas, the well known contractor; Daniel E., postmaster of the city; George, member of the city council; Mortimer; Mrs. Kate Laing and Miss Jane Kean and one brother, Andrew Ryan of Springfield, Ill.” NB: there is a crease on the left side of the page and some words were not readable.
