Description	:	Ellen Tuck "Tucky" French Astor Guest was a prominent socialite and wife of John Astor VI and Raymond Richard Guest. Ellen was born to Francis O French and Eleanor Livingston Burrill. Francis's family was known as the "Divorcing French's" because of their many and numerous divorces. Ellen was born to Francis O French and Eleanor Livingston Burrill. Francis's family was known as the "Divorcing French's" because of their many and numerous divorces. Amos French, Francis's father, had left Francis penniless and so Francis set out to make his own living. Shortly after the birth of Ellen Tuck French's sister, Virginia French, the Eleanor and Francis divorced and Eleanor Burrill-French took custody of the two girls and later married James Lenox Banks. Eleanor Burrill-French's parents were rich, so they were able to live a very lavish lifestyle. They wintered on Park Avenue and summered in Newport. In 1934 Ellen Tuck French married the wealthy John Jacob Astor VI and they had two children. The Astors lived luxuriously in their two homes, "Chetwode" cottage in Newport and a large townhouse in New York City. Sadly, Astor had a small attention span and quietly started to see other women. Tucky found out and divorced him, claiming a $1 million divorce settlement. Ellen raised her two children in another large cottage called "Harbor View" and also rented a townhouse in New York City. She lived off of the $1 million settlement and the other $3 million she had inherited from her grandparents. She was also featured in many Pond's Cold Cream commercials and she was constantly seen on the pages of newspapers and magazines. Ellen "Tucky" was famous for her 4 strand pearl necklace, which had been a wedding gift from her mother. She wore the necklace to the most important occasions. When Ellen died, she had an estate valued at $2 million which she gave $500,000 to each of her boys, an annual income of $50,000 and "Harbor View", which was to be shared by them. Ellen Tuck French, born Dec 10, 1915 in New York the daughter of Francis Ormand French and Eleanor Livingston "Burrill" French. Ellen married on June 30, 1934 at Newport, Rhode Island to John Jacob Astor VI who was born August 14, 1912 and died June 26, 1992 at Miami Beach, Florida. He was the son of Col. John Jacob Astor V who died aboard the Titanic with his 2nd wife Madeleine Talmadge "Force" Astor. Mrs Ellen Tuck "French" Astor appeared in numerous advertisements for Pond's Cold Cream. Ellen and John Astor divorced in 1943. Ellen Tuck French Astor then married on April 30, 1953, Richard Raymond Guest who was born Nov. 25, 1907 at New York, and died Dec. 31, 1991 at Fredericksburg, Virginia. He was the Virginia State senator from 1947-1953 and U.S. Ambassador to Ireland 1965-1968. Ellen Tuck "French" Guest died Sept 5, 1974 at her Newport, Rhode Island home at 11 Berkeley Avenue at the age of 58, burial was in the Island Cemetery, Newport, Rhode Island.
