The funeral services were held yesterday and a large crowd attended the last rites. The sad news reached the people in our town on Sunday afternoon just before dark that Mr Elliott Maxwell Lucas the county treasurer had passed away and was cold in death at his home near White's Bridge. Everyone expresses the utmost sympathy for the young wife and distressed children Mr W C Lucas and Miss Mary Lucas both of whom were away at the time of the death of their father. Mr Lucas was in his office up to 3 o'clock on Saturday afternoon apparently well but felt indisposed toward the last no on suspected the end was so near. Some kind of kidney complain was at the bottom of the trouble. The deceased served for several years as country treasurer and was a merchant for several years. He first married Mrs Gordan who was a Miss Shackleford then Miss Henrietta Horlbeck of Charleston his last wife being a daughter of Dr Tucker. A remarkable coincidence about this death is that Mrs John LaBruce and Mrs Lucas two sisters should have lost their husbands within a few weeks of each other. The funeral services were held at the Episcopal Church yesterday Rev Dr Johnston officiating with the following Senior pall bearers W H Dorrill John Bourne SW Roquie B W Cannon J J Hucks LG Walker Walter Hazard and BA Munnerlyn Junior Pallbearers JB Johnston HL Smith CW Scurry TS McConnell MW Pyatt and JB Steele.
