"The Press Gazette", Hillsboro, Ohio January 1900 A Day To Be Remembered On Saturday, January 28, the ten children of the deceased Ellis Barrett, gathered at the family residence, two miles south of Leesburg, to once more take dinner with the bereaved mother. This was the first time in more than twenty-five years that all were permitted to be together. The mother and children all dined at the one table. The mother, seventy-two years of age, presided at the head, around which the children gathered as of old. The eldest is John (49 Years) of Bainbridge, Ohio; Thomas (47) of Road, Mo.; Samuel (46) of Cripple Creek, Colorado; Mrs. Sidney Banks (44) of Bridges; Benjamin (42) Bridges; Mrs. Ruth Ruble (40) Lynchburg; Carey (38) Leesburg; Joseph (36) Cripple Creek, Colorado, Sherman (34) Leesburg, Ohio; Adam (32) Bridges. The dinner was prepared by "aunt" Bettie Crabtree. Many happy days of childhood were lived over again in the conversation of the brothers and sisters. But ere dinner is over, we see the vacant chair of father, which tells us "He will go in and out among us no more forever." This day was one long to be remembered by all present, and ere we all meet again, "the Death Angel will have rapped with equal pace, at the palace, as at the cottage gate. Sweet is the thought, the promise sweet That friends, long severed friends, shall meet; That kindred souls on earth disjoined, Shall meet from earthly dross refined. Their mortal cares and sorrows o'er, And mingle hearts to part no more." Will of Ellis F. Barrett The will of the late Ellis F. Barrett, of Fairfield Township, has been admitted to probate, and the widow has elected to take under the will of the deceased. The will provides that after all just debts and funeral expenses, including a suitable monument over his grave, be paid, that his two sons, Benjamin H. and Adam M. Barrett, shall receive all the goods, chattels, monies, notes, credits and personal property of every kind, share and share alike, upon the condition that they pay the debts, etc. and pay to their mother one-third of the appraised value of said personal property. He gives to his son, Benjamin Barrett, in fee simple, the tract of land known as the Tom George Farm, containing about 50 acres, and also the tract of land bought of Caroline Miller, of about 20 acres. To his son, Adam, he gives in fee simple, 50 acres of land to be laid off the south end of the home farm, including the house, barn and buildings on said 50 acres. The remainder of the home farm is given to his wife in lieu of dower, for and during her natural lifetime, and at her death is given in fee simple to his son, Adam M. Barrett. He recommends that his wife permit his son, Adam, to manage and control this land for her. His interest in the farm in Paint Township, owned in common by the testator and his son, Benjamin, is given in fee simple to his two sons, Benjamin and Adam, share and share alike, on condition that they pay, within one year from his death, to his son, John, the sum of $500, which sum is given to John and he is to receive in full satisfaction and release of any claims or demands he may have against the estate whatsoever. All the property not disposed of by the foregoing terms of the will is bequeathed, share and share alike, to Benjamin and Adam, who are named as executors. The will was written for him by Judge Steele, April 22, 1892, and witnessed by him and Captain E. M. DeBruin.
