Read More	Obituary From Ottumwa Daily Courier, Monday, October 19, 1953, Page 16: Elmer A. Johnson, Sr., 57, 1731 Mabel street, died at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines at 6:45 a.m. today. Born in Ottumwa, July 27, 1896, he was the son of Charles A. and Maria Engstrom Johnson. He had lived his entire life in Ottumwa. He was married in November, 1919, to Olive Stroud, who survives. An employe of John Morrell & Co. for the past 20 years, he was a car inspector. He was a member of the V.F.W., post No. 775 and F.O.E. Aerie, No. 114. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Eugene Johnson and Elmer Johnson, Jr., both of Ottumwa, Robert Johnson, airman first class, with the army air force in Germany, and Larry Johnson, at home; one daughter, Mrs. Donna Mae Shipman, of Bell Flower, Calif.; five grandchildren; his father, Charles A. Johnson, of Ottumwa; and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Lewis of Ottumwa, Mrs. Esther DeBushe of Carmel, Calif., and Mrs. Ellen Lewis of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his mother and one sister. The body is being returning today to the Johnson funeral chapel awaiting completion of funeral arrangements. "JOHNSON FUNERAL," From "Ottumwa Courier," October 21, 1953: Funeral services for Elmer A. Johnson, 57, of 1731 Mabel street, who died at 6:45 a.m. Monday at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines, will be held at the Johnson funeral chapel at 3 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Malvin H. Lundeen, pastor of the First Lutheran church, will be in charge. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery with military services at the grave in charge of American Legion O.B. Nelson post No. 3 Pallbearers will be Vernon Simmons, Henry Collins, Henry Hoover, Ernest Hoover, William Nelson and William Byrum. The casket will be taken to the home late today and returned to the chapel Friday morning.
