Description	:	McCUNE - Elmer Charles Brintnall, 87, of McCune died at 4:05 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, where he entered Aug. 8. He had been in failing health. The first child of Charles Elmer and Mary Anna (Lyons) Brintnall, he was born June 10, 1918, in Fairview, Okla. He lived all his life in Oklahoma and Kansas. He had been in failing health. The first child of Charles Elmer and Mary Anna (Lyons) Brintnall, he was born June 10, 1918, in Fairview, Okla. He lived all his life in Oklahoma and Kansas. He married Oletha Dawson on Oct. 1, 1935, in Woodward, Okla. They were married during the Great Depression and he often recalled the dust storms in Oklahoma, such as the one on April 14, 1935, referred to as "The Black Sunday." They moved from Oklahoma to McCune in 1938. Times were hard but they enjoyed their family and grandchildren, camping and fishing. She preceded him in death on July 27, 1973. He served in World War II with the 462nd Army Air Force Unit at Camp Pinedale in California. He earned the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and American Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged in May 1946. He worked as a mechanic at various places in Parsons, including Ervin Auto and Marine, and later opened Elmer's Auto Repair Shop in McCune, which he ran for several years. He married Margaret (Parsons) Nunn on Aug. 23, 1974, and she survives of the home. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Joy Brintnall of Joplin; a daughter and son-in-law, Jaunita and Chauncey Shepard of McCune; a stepdaughter, Susan Thomas and her husband, Francis, of Girard; a stepson, Richard Nunn of McCune; seven grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; several great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Merna Severs of Pittsburg; and a brother, Ora Brintnall and his wife, Cordelia, of Corvallis, Mont. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nila (Brintnall) Harper; and a brother, Lelan Brintnall. He was a member of McCune Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and elder. He also attended services at United Chapel Church at McCune with family members and at Good Samaritan Center in Parsons. The service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons with the Revs. Clair Uitts and Jason Godsell officiating. Burial will be in McCune Cemetery with military honors to be given by Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars, of Parsons. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials to United Chapel Church of McCune may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
