Description	:	HILL: Elmer Delbert Hill passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5th 2009 at his residence in the Carberry Personal Care Home. He was born in his home near Estevan, Saskatchewan on June 1, 1917 to William Francis Hill and Amy Williams Hill, the fourth child of eight. He attended school in Saskatchewan. He was born in his home near Estevan, Saskatchewan on June 1, 1917 to William Francis Hill and Amy Williams Hill, the fourth child of eight. He attended school in Saskatchewan. His pre-war years were spent working on farms in Manitoba. On December 4th, 1941, Elmer joined the R.C.A.S.C. "B" Company in Winnipeg. He trained in Red Deer Alberta prior to going overseas. While overseas, he served in England, Italy, Sicily, Holland and other sites in Europe. Upon his return to Canada in 1945, he resumed farming, later purchasing farmland at Castle Point. In 1949, he met Patricia McCulley, the new schoolteacher at Castle Hill School. On April 1, 1950, they were married at Deer Lodge United Church in Winnipeg. Elmer continued farming until 1973, when he started a new business – Carberry Carpet Installations. He continued with this career until 1989, retiring at the age of 72. He enjoyed traveling to warmer climes in the winter, spending the last 11 traveling years in Zihuatanejo, Mexico. He was a master gardener – no one could grow corn as tall as his, or roses as prolific and fragrant! Elmer enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially the last few trips with his sons and grandson Shelby. He greatly enjoyed meeting previously unknown relatives at the Hill reunions begun in the 1990's. He was a member of the Carberry Legion and Carberry Elks. Elmer has resided in the Carberry Personal Care Home since July 2007. Many thanks are extended to the staff of the Carberry Personal Care Home for their fine, warm care given to Elmer while he was a resident. Elmer was predeceased by his parents, and siblings Fern, Clarence, Howard and Wilbert. Funeral will be held on Monday, February 9th at 11:00 a.m. in the Carberry United Church, with interment to follow at the Carberry Cemetery.
