Elmer was born on April 4, 1929, in Grand Forks, the son of Elmer and Genevieve (Kelly) Betting. He grew up and attended schools in Grand Forks. Read More	Elmer Eugene Betting, 79, of Grand Forks, passed away Monday, January 19, 2009, at his home in Grand Forks, ND. Elmer was born on April 4, 1929, in Grand Forks, the son of Elmer and Genevieve (Kelly) Betting. He grew up and attended schools in Grand Forks. He served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years then returned back to Grand Forks. Elmer married Lois Austreng on April 15, 1952, in Grand Forks. He worked for several years as a mechanic. He started working for the city of Grand Forks in 1956 as a mechanic and retired as the Sanitation Foreman in 1992. Elmer would spend most of his days playing cards, hand held poker and listening to the radio. He will be greatly missed by all. He was a member of the East Grand Forks VFW Post # 3817, and a member of the Eagles Club. Elmer is survived by sons, Mark (Ellen) Betting of Lakeville, MN, Randal (Lee) Betting of Orange Park, FL, Eugene (Andrea) Betting of Melboure, FL; daughter, Susan (Perry) Gagnon of Grand Forks; grandchildren, Rebecca, David, Sandra, Reggie, Wendy, Parker, Graham, Shaun, Ryan, Jaime, Charlotte, Amber, Jason (Leah) Gagnon, Tyler (Traci L.) Gagnon, June (Brandon) Gustafson, & Traci K; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Red) Betting & Marvin (Marvel) Betting. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois (1977); son, Steve (1983); step-mother, Belle; brother, Curtis; sister, Shirley; and father & mother-in-law, Elmer "Pete" & Katie Jorgenson. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009, at Holy Family Catholic Church 1018 18th Ave. in Grand Forks. VISTITATION: 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a 7pm prayer service on Friday, January 23, 2009, at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue for the hour prior to the Mass at the church. INTERMENT: (Spring 09') Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Grand Forks, North Dakota.
