Description	:	Elmer G. Barker, 74, of Cando, N.D., passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011, at the Towner County Living Center in Cando. Elmer G. Barker was born Oct. 25, 1936, in Towner County, N.D., the son of Hubert and Pearl (Dingman) Barker. He graduated from Cando High School and attended Mayville State College. He was united in marriage to Diane Peterson on April 14, 1956, in Cando. Selling cars was Elmer's passion. He began his career by selling for Crume-Nash in Cando. Barker, 74, of Cando, N.D., passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011, at the Towner County Living Center in Cando. Elmer G. Barker was born Oct. 25, 1936, in Towner County, N.D., the son of Hubert and Pearl (Dingman) Barker. He graduated from Cando High School and attended Mayville State College. He was united in marriage to Diane Peterson on April 14, 1956, in Cando. Selling cars was Elmer's passion. He began his career by selling for Crume-Nash in Cando. He eventually bought into Northern Motors of Cando and later sold for a car dealership in Rolla, N.D. Most recently he was with D & B Motors of Langdon, N.D. One of the first cars Elmer sold is at the Dale and Martha Hawk Museum in Wolford, N.D., and the last was sold from his hospital bed. His dedication to customer service was recognized through a personal letter from Henry Ford II in 1971, but more importantly his dedication will be remembered by the many area customers he served. Elmer was also a member of the Elks, Cando Lutheran Church, National Guard and served on the Cando Lutheran Church Board. Elmer is survived by: his wife, Diane Barker, of Cando; and daughter, Teri (Paul) Semph, of Cologne, Minn. Preceding him in death were his son, Rick Barker; parents; and a sister, Francis Stevens. Memorial services will be held Thursday, June 30, 2011, at 11 a.m., in Cando Lutheran Church in Cando. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando.
