Read More	Elmer Henry Clark Elmer Henry Clark, age 73, died at his son's home in Bethlehem, Iowa on Friday, May 26, 2000 due to complications from Multiple Myeloma. Surviving are his two children, Charles Clark of Bethlehem, and Charlene Ryburn of Pleasant Hill; four grandchildren, Michael and Steven Clark of Bethlehem, Jaimie and Kristie Ryburn of Pleasant Hill; his mother, Wilma Clara Clark of Corydon, and his brother Arthur Emery Clark of Des Moines. Elmer was born on November 26, 1926, east of Millerton, IA. Elmer grew up around the Bethlehem and Confidence areas. In his youth, Elmer worked many jobs. Family and friends often listened to Elmer as he recalled his days spent working at the Grismore's Turkey Farm and recalling the coal mining days in Wayne County, just south of Confidence. During World War II, Elmer served as a Sergeant in the war and received several decorations and citations including: Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal in Japan. On October 4, 1951, Elmer married Ruby Elizabeth Egbert. In the fall of 1960, they moved to Des Moines where they raised their two children, Charles and Charlene. In 1990, Elmer retired from his employment with Younkers Department Stores after devoting 30 years of Service. In the spring of 1997, Elmer moved to Corydon, Iowa following Ruby's death the previous fall. He looked forward to spending his days with family and friends. This also included many days of fishing and keeping an eye on his mother! Elmer was very proud of his grand kids. He enjoyed spending time watching Michael reel in the 5 pound bass (the one that did not get away), or watching Steven ride his motorcycle in motorcross, or talking about Kristie's award winning grapes at the Iowa State Fair, or sharing a common interest with Jaimie about trains. Elmer always seemed to find time to listen to what the grand kids had done since the last time that they seen each other. Family and friends recall Elmer's long battle against cancer and knew that this would not let this stop him from doing the things that he wanted to do. He looked forward to the several trips that Charlene and Tim would take him on. Favorite trips included Disney World and traveling out west. Elmer spent a lot of time watching and helping with the construction of Charles and Deb's new home in Bethlehem. He had a sense of fulfillment knowing that his son was carrying on the tradition of living and raising his family on the same land which he grow up on and where Charles and Charlene as kids, spent their summers. We will miss you Dad! and Grandpa!
