Description	:	Elmer Herman Deyke entered into eternal rest on July 5th 2014, in Ft. Worth, TX. Born June 8, 1922 to Herman and Louise (Loseke) Deyke, in Platte County, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Missouri Synod Church, Columbus, Nebraska. Elmer attended Parochial school at Christ Lutheran and went through the eighth grade. He then took over the work on the family farm and continued to run the farm after his father was injured in a farming accident. Read More	Elmer Herman Deyke entered into eternal rest on July 5th 2014, in Ft. Worth, TX. Born June 8, 1922 to Herman and Louise (Loseke) Deyke, in Platte County, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Missouri Synod Church, Columbus, Nebraska. Elmer attended Parochial school at Christ Lutheran and went through the eighth grade. He then took over the work on the family farm and continued to run the farm after his father was injured in a farming accident. On September 18, 1949, he married Mildred Martensen, they had 6 children, and were married for 27 years. This marriage ended, and he later married Frances Smith on May 21, 1977, enjoying 23 years together until her death in Dec 2000. Elmer farmed until it was necessary to sell the farm, at which time he moved to Colorado, working as a vending machine serviceman, and then as a milkman, delivering milk to customers in and around Boulder, Colorado, driving up in the mountains on narrow, treacherous roads in the winter. He moved his family to Texas, where he went back to farming, then manager of a hog farm, and finally as a commercial carpenter. His career as a commercial carpenter continued until his retirement, and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpentry, extending over 45 years, up until his death. Elmer enjoyed fishing, camping, feeding and watching birds and identifying all the ones that were on "his place," gardening, playing cards, but his greatest passion, was playing his accordion, "120 key Bass". He self taught himself at age 14 when his parents gave him an accordion for Christmas, and never learned to read music, but played by ear. He traded up several times to his present accordion he has had since 1946. He played in several Polka bands in Nebraska, as a young man, and after he retired, moved back to Nebraska, and played in a polka band again, playing at the American Legion and at local nursing homes as well. In 2004 he returned to Texas where lived until his death. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Paris, TX. He is survived by his six children and their families; son, Arlo (wife Sue) Deyke and children Leasha West, and Jeff Deyke; wife Yvette and great grandson Koen. Daughters; Sylvia Lueker; husband Ron, grandson Shane Greer and wife Heather, great grandsons Michael and Tyler. Sheryl Moore; husband Bill, step grandchildren, Jennifer Moore, Paul Moore; wife Jenny and great step grandchildren, Abby and Jake Moore. Sheila Henry, granddaughter Stephanie Goff and great granddaughter Spencer Goff. Daughter, Sonja Hoggard SuLee Waters and husband Gary. Many other friends and cousins also survive. He was preceeded in death by his wife Frances Ruth Deyke, his parents, sister Elsie Patrick, and ex wife Mildred Deyke Clements. Fry – Gibbs Funeral Home, Paris, TX are handling arrangements, and services will be held Tuesday, July 8th, at 2pm, Fry Gibbs Chapel, with Reverend Toby Byrd officiating, with visitation from 1pm to 2pm, prior to the service. Interment will be at Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Columbus Nebraska, in the family plot, on Friday July 11th at 2pm.
