Mr. Hoffman was born Sept. 29, 1925, in Sioux City, the son of Elmer and Goldie (Godfrey) Hoffman Sr. He attended Sioux City schools, and lived in the Sioux City area most of his life. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He married Shirley Abbott on April 15, 1950, in Elk Point. He was employed in the warehouse at Sears and later worked for I-GO Moving and Storage for many years. He retired in 1981. His wife died March 6, 2001, in Sioux City. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, North Riverside Lodge 662 A.F. & A.M., American Legion Monahan Post 64 and Disabled American Veterans, where he was a former commander. Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Jacalyn and Rick Hughes of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Charles and Lynn Hoffman of McCook Lake, and Robert and Betty Sorrell of Tangent, Ore.; a brother, Harold of South Dakota; a sister, Lila Mae Gude of McCook Lake; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Libby Hasset and Elsie Wickey and a sister Loretta Hoffman in infancy. Source Woodbury County, Iowa Obituary and Death Notice Collection
