He was born to Matthew and Thresa (Pfeifer) Boxler on April 7, 1924 on a farm nine miles south and three miles east of Morland, Kansas in Graham County. Read More	Elmer John Boxler passed away at the Sheridan County Health Complex on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the age of 94. He was born to Matthew and Thresa (Pfeifer) Boxler on April 7, 1924 on a farm nine miles south and three miles east of Morland, Kansas in Graham County. Elmer attended school in Morland, Hill City and Hoxie graduating with the Sheridan Community High School Class of 1944. Elmer entered the United States Army at Fort Riley, Kansas in 1949. He proudly served his country for twenty-six months during the Korean Conflict. For fourteen months of those months he served in 747 Heavy Equipment Company as an instructor training recruits to operate Road Equipment. Elmer was married to the love of his life, Norma Treu on February 2, 1953 at the Saint Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Hoxie, Kansas. To this union, two children were born, son, Craig Edward and daughter, Nancy Ann. They raised their family in and have been lifelong residents of Hoxie. They were happily married to each other for sixty-five years. Elmer worked for Sheridan County as an equipment operator, Weed Supervisor for seven years, and Road Supervisor for twenty years. He was District Vice President of the Kansas Engineers Association, Secretary of Northwest County Officials Association, and served on the State Signs & Safety Committee. He was on the St. Frances Cabrini Church Committee for two terms and on the Sheridan County Library Board for eight years and held several offices. He helped to build the Hoxie Golf Course. One of his favorite things was working on the Sheridan County Amusement Company Board. Elmer enjoyed and was talented in sports. He especially liked baseball, golf, and basketball. In High School he lettered three years in football and four years in basketball. Elmer played town team baseball and basketball. He was fond of big band music, old country music and spent time recording songs. Elmer and Norma enjoyed traveling in their Fifth Wheel and spending time fishing. Elmer is survived by his wife, Norma of the home, Hoxie, Kansas; son, Craig and wife Lorelle of Salina, Kansas; daughter Nancy Barrett and husband WaKeen of Aurora, Colorado; sister, Carolyn Nelson of Denver, Colorado; two granddaughters, Alysha Ann Brown and husband Daniel of Aurora, Colorado and Rebecca Lauren Daley and husband Austin of Parker, Colorado; and three great-grandchildren, Samuel Brown, Nathaniel Brown and Elise Daley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Theresa Boxer; brother, Kenneth Boxler, and sister, Mary Russell. A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Monday, September 17, 2018 at the Saint Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Hoxie at 10:00 A.M. A visitation will be held, Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., and a Vigil Service with Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Memorials are suggested to the Sheridan County Amusement Company, Saint Frances Cabrini Catholic Cemetery, or the Hoxie Golf Course.
