Angle, 85, of Ottumwa, formerly of Oelwein, died Friday, Aug. 9, at the University Hospitals, Iowa City. He was born Dec. 24, 1927, in Huron, S.D., son of Walter Lee and Una Mae Dewitt Angle. Angle, 85, of Ottumwa, formerly of Oelwein, died Friday, Aug. 9, at the University Hospitals, Iowa City. He was born Dec. 24, 1927, in Huron, S.D., son of Walter Lee and Una Mae Dewitt Angle. He married Ruth L. Wagner in Lakefield, Minn., on June 11, 1950. A graduate of Ames High School, he immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. He graduated from the Iowa Highway Patrol Academy in 1951 and was assigned to Post 8 in Mason City. He was promoted to sergeant in Post 10 in 1965 and lived in Oelwein. In 1972, he was promoted to lieutenant and served as post commander in Cedar Falls. He was promoted to captain in 1975 and moved to headquarters in Des Moines and was in charge of field operations. In 1978 he was promoted to major, continuing as field operations officer. He retired in 1986. Survived by: his wife; three sons, Jerry L. (Cathy) of Ottumwa, Gary D. (Toni) of Oelwein and Keith E. of Iowa City; and a daughter, Debra K. (Dick) Homewood of Cedar Falls; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: an infant son, Bradley; his parents; a half brother, Byron "Pat" Conyers; a half sister, Margarette Whetstone; and a brother, John R. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ottumwa, with graveside services and burial at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Ames Municipal Cemetery. Honor guard will be provided by Iowa State Patrol. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home, Ottumwa.
