He was born in Mayetta, KS on Jan. 14, 1920 and moved to Vancouver in 1969. Mr. Hards was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 and later was an auto mechanic. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church. Elmer liked meeting his family for breakfast on Saturday mornings as well as working on cars at his home. He also enjoyed going fishing and camping. Hards, 89, died Wed., March 4, 2009, at home in Vancouver, WA. He was born in Mayetta, KS on Jan. 14, 1920 and moved to Vancouver in 1969. Mr. Hards was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 and later was an auto mechanic. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church. Elmer liked meeting his family for breakfast on Saturday mornings as well as working on cars at his home. He also enjoyed going fishing and camping. Survivors include a son, Steve Hards of Vancouver; sisters, Wilma Carter and Bonnie Hossfeld of Falls City, NE, Betty Irving of Tulsa, OK; and brothers, Delmer Hards of Everett, WA and Bob Hards of Topeka, KS; three grandchildren, Scott, Ryan and Brittany Hards of Vancouver; as well as two great-grandchildren, Kylie Rose and Julianna Marie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loraine M. Hards; and sisters, Barbara Richey and Lucille Winters. Funeral services will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Tues., March 10, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with a viewing, 9:00-9:45 a.m.
