Elmer was born March 11, 1937, in Talleyrand, Iowa, to Bernard M. and Adella M. (Adam) Greiner and attended St. Peter & Paul Catholic School. Greiner, age 78, of Keota, died Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at the Sigourney Health Care Center. Elmer was born March 11, 1937, in Talleyrand, Iowa, to Bernard M. and Adella M. (Adam) Greiner and attended St. Peter & Paul Catholic School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 until 1963, and in the Army Reserves for six years. On November 12, 1966, Elmer married Antoinette “Toni” Lazio in Muscatine. Elmer lived and farmed in the Clear Creek community, retiring in 2008. He was a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, where he served as President and Vice President of the Church Council. He then became a member of Holy Trinity Parish. Elmer was a member of St. Mary’s School Board, Knights of Columbus, 4-H Council, President of the local Co-op Board, Farm Credit Board, was Past President of the Keokuk County Pork Producers and was a Clear Creek Township Trustee. He was inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame in 2007. Survivors include his wife: Toni of Keota; eight children: Tina (Rob) Frank of Keota, Elmer Greiner, Jr. of Ollie, Patty (Brian) Nimtz of Oskaloosa, Cathy (Troy) Leitheiser of Cedar Rapids, Ann (David) Baetsle of Ollie, Bernard (Jennifer) Greiner of Harper, Richard Greiner of Keota and Julie (Troy) Thompson of Waukon; 12 grandchildren; one great granddaughter; 11 siblings: Kenneth Greiner of Keota, Caroline Crawford of Keota, Donna Marshek of Hills, Bernadine Huff of Tiffin, Martha Mousel of Clear Lake, Irene Gipple of Crawfordsville, Francis Greiner of Keota, Ernest Greiner of Ollie, Kathleen Greiner of Keota, Anthony Greiner of Keota and Theresa Greiner. He was preceded in death by his parents: Bernard and Adella; brother: Arnold Greiner and sister: Mary Catherine Greiner. Memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2015, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Revs. Jake Greiner, Charles Fladung and Stephen Page officiating. Entombment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Muscatine at a later date. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at the church, where there will be a wake service at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Keokuk County Hospice, Keokuk County 4-H, the Knights of Columbus or Sigourney Health Care Center.
