Description	:	Elmer was the youngest child of Marc and Matilda Piper, born and raised in Sanbornton. All of the Piper children died before their time. Elmer lost two brothers, one at age 6 and the other just 22 from consumption. Downing, the daughter of Charles and Emily (Hunkins) Downing on Jan 27, 1893. The couple lost a son at birth in October of the following year. They would not have other children. Elmer became ill several years into the marriage and Hattie's brother came to help on the farm when Elmer became blind a few years before his death at age 47. The official cause of death was heart disease. My greatgrandmother recorded in her diary that he was a handsome young man and the neighborhood mourned his loss.
