Description	:	Elmer Paul Schluneger, 80, a life long Colfax area resident, passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane. A graveside service will be at 11:30 am Friday, Oct. 29th at the Onecho Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service at 12:00 noon at the Onecho Bible Church. Pastor Ken McNaughton will officiate. Viewing will be Wednesday afternoon and Thursday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax. Elmer was born Nov. 9, 1929 in Colfax. He was one of seven children born to Albert and Evalina (Schrag) Schluneger. He grew up on the family farm at Onecho and attended school in the Onecho area. Elmer helped on the family farm from an early age. Later he became more heavily engaged in the cattle ranching operation, which he loved. He also drove trucks for many years, including hauling hay, grain and cattle. For many years Elmer helped harvest for George Gault and the Slonaker families either by driving combine or trucks, but he was always there helping with what needed to be done. Elmer was well known in the Colfax and surrounding areas for his trademark white cowboy hat, but more importantly for his gentle kindness and willingness to love to visit. He was a member of the Onecho Bible Church. Elmer enjoyed following Colfax sports and was often a spectator in the stands. He loved to work with wood and build things. He enjoyed music and even wrote his own song. He also liked boating. Elmer is survived by two sisters, Leona Conrad and Virginia Morgan and a brother, Ed Schluneger all of Colfax. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Earl, Leslie "Heck" and John. The family suggests memorials to the Whitman County Chaplaincy or to the Shriner's Hospital.
