English, 50, of 166 Neal avenue, former oil field worker, died Sunday at 8:55 p.m. in Newark hospital where he had been a patient since June 27. He had been ill three weeks. Mr. English, employed as a tool dresser, came to Newark in 1918 and for a number of years was in the employ of Jay Hunt, oil contractor. He was a member of the Eagles and Moose lodges of Newark and the Lutheran church of Lovettsville, Va. A native of Lovettsville, he was born March 20, 1897, the son of Arthur and Katie (Smith) English. His widow, the former Odessa M. Crawford whom he married Oct. 14, 1922, survives; also three children, Mrs. Eleanor Jean Fry of Nellie, Coshocton county; Virginia Ellen and Esther Mae English of the home; three sisters and two brothers; Mrs. Aileen Frye, Mrs. Catherine Loy and Robert F. English, all of Lovettsville; A. R. English of Baltimore, Md., and William English of Pencerville, Va. Another brother, George English, died a few weeks ago. The body is at the McCament- Bounds- Van Wey funeral home and funeral services will be held there Wednesday at 2 p.m. Rev. Frederick Brown will conduct the service and burial will be in Wilson cemetery.
