He was born the son of Thomas and Blanche Kringle Delaney. He married Bernice Harms in 1942 and had 4 children. She died in 1963. Read More	SOURCE: Cedar Rapids Gazette June 25, 2000 PG 4B & 5B Elmer T Delaney, 80, of Cedar Rapids, a resident of Hiawatha Care Center, died from an extended illness. He was born the son of Thomas and Blanche Kringle Delaney. He married Bernice Harms in 1942 and had 4 children. She died in 1963. On Aug. 28, 1965 he married Betty Jane Miller and gained five stepchildren. Elmer began his career with the city of Cedar Rapids in the forestry department in 1946, then moved to the parks department where he was parks superintendent and parks and recreation director. In 1982, he was elected parks commissioner, retiring 1n 1986. Accomplishments include nature trails, parks and river walks along the river, Seminole Valley Farm and Village, and many improvements to the municipal golf courses. Elmer served on many state and national park boards. He was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church. Elmer was an avid golfer, outdoorsman and enjoyed woodworking, as well as gardening with Betty. He loved spending time with his family, especially being a grandpa. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Betty J.; two sons, Elmer Thomas Jr. and wife Doreen and Ronald and wife Jan, all of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Debra Crane and husband Don of Cedar Rapids and Gayle Gersely and husband Frank of Seville, Ohio; two stepsons, Steve Miller and David Miller and wife Chris, all of Cedar Rapids; two stepdaughters, Linda Folkedahl and husband Dave of El Paso, Texas and Leslie Lauterwasser and husband Kent of Amana; a sister, Jane Ganson of Peosta; two brothers, Harold Delaney of Dubuque and Kenneth Delaney of Cedar Rapids, 19 grandchildren,14 great grandchildren; Nancy Miller of Cedar Rapids and Debra Miller of Redding, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Bernice; a stepson, Robert; three brothers, Edward, Robert and Tom, and three sisters, Nancy, Betty and Dorothy.
