Alderson, age 93, of Schaller, Iowa died Monday, October 27, 2014 at North Lake Manor in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 31, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller. Burial will follow in the Schaller Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 12:00 p.m. until the beginning of the service at the church. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements. Elmira Marie Hansen was born January 18, 1921 in Ida Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Ferdinand and Ernstine (Radke) Hansen of Galva, Iowa. She had one sister, Lona. Elmira graduated from Galva High School in 1941. After graduation, she stayed on the family farm in Galva until the age of 27. She loved sharing her memories of life on the farm during the Depression. She married David Almer Alderson on the family farm in 1947. They had one daughter, Barbara, born in 1948. Elmira worked for many years at Miller’s Supermarket in Schaller. She also worked at the Schaller Hospital and finally at the Schaller Clinic assisting Dr. Velma Boston. Elmira loved traveling whether it was a rustic cabin on Spirit Lake with the Alderson clan or Epcot Center in Florida with Dr. Velma Boston. She had fond memories of going to Yellowstone with the Schaller Hospital co-workers. She also made many trips to Wisconsin to visit her daughter, Barbara. Elmira was also a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller. She enjoyed being a member of the Clover Club and visiting with her lady friends. Elmira dearly loved her family and spent hours with her sister, Lona, shopping or cooking. Elmira was a great cook and we were lucky to be a part of the time we had with her. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Barbara Alderson of New Glarus, Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Milt Swain of Storm Lake, Iowa; sister-in-law, Dee Alderson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; nieces and nephews: Diane and Lynn, Bob and Tracey, and Julie and Scott; extended family and friends. Elmira was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Alderson; and sister, Lona Swain.
