Pierce Dies at Her Home Here Last Thursday After a Brief Illness It was with expression of deepest sorrow that the people of the community heard of the death of Mrs. Charles L Pierce, which occurred at her home in this city last Thursday [Dec. 23, 1915] at 3:30 a.m. after a brief illness. Mrs. Pierce was in her usual health on Monday and did the work about the house and she and Mr. Pierce had planned to attend the lecture at the Congregational Church that evening, but after supper she was taken suddenly ill and the physician was summoned. She continued to grow worse and a consultation of physicians that the only hope of saving her life was an operation which was performed Wednesday afternoon at her home. She revived from the operation sufficiently to recognize members of the family, but continued to fail until the early hours of Thursday morning. Elnora Dorothy Richmond, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Richmond was born in Chickasaw County Sept. 16, 1887 and died at her house in Nashua Dec. 23, 1915. When a baby, her parents moved to Frederika, Bremer County where she grew to womanhood. On Nov. 7, 1906 she was united in marriage to Charles L. Pierce and until the following March they made their home with his parents at Republic, then moving onto a farm near that place. From that time until about 5 years ago, they lived in the vicinity of Republic, then moving to Nashua where they had since lived. In infancy she was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Frederika and at age 15 she was confirmed into the Lutheran faith. In July 1909 she united with the Christian church at Republic and remained a member of that church until her death. Besides the husband and parents and family, she is survived by her mother and father, two brothers, Charles and Martin, and two sisters, Stella and Leona. Her parents were summoned from Frederika and were with her during the operation and the brothers and sisters arrived shortly before her spirit took its departure for the other world. Hers was a beautiful life, filled with charitable deeds and imparting happiness and sunshine wherever she went. A cheery smile always illuminated her continence and no word of criticism for the frailties of others ever passed her lips, but rather words of encouragement and hope. Her good deeds were done in a quiet unostentatious manner, known only to those on whom bestowed. Her home life was ideal and it will be most sadly missed. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved ones but more particularly to the young husband who is under this great cloud of sorrow at this Christmas time when one’s thoughts naturally turn to gladness and joy. The funeral was held from the Methodist Church Friday afternoon, Rev. Leo. Thompson, a boyhood friend of the husband, conducting the service and Reverends Pease and Burleigh assisting. The church was crowded with friends of the deceased who came to pay their last respects to one who was loved and admired by all. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery. The following friends and relatives from out of town were here: George Dunham, of Troy Center, WI; Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Cory of Goodland Ind.; J.P.L. Simpson and son Ralph; Mrs. Will Berren; Mrs. Will Beebe of Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Meier and son of Fredericksburg; and Mrs. and Mrs. Fred Bergmann of Frederika.
