Eloise Park Hendrix Poston, a devout Christian woman, went to be with her Savior Lord Jesus on Monday, December 2, 2013. Eloise was born November 5, 1922 in Idabel, Oklahoma, the daughter of Joseph Guy Hendrix and Polly Esther (Park) Hendrix. Eloise died in Overland Park, Kansas. She was the second of four sisters, including her twin sister Louise. She was baptized and grew up in Idabel, graduating from Idabel High School in 1940. In 1944 she graduated from Oklahoma College for Women (OCW) with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics. In 1966 she graduated from the University of Iowa with a master's degree in Library Science. While at OCW, Eloise met the dashing Army airman that would win her heart. Eloise was married to William Eugene Poston on November 25, 1945, in Idabel, Oklahoma. They were blessed with two children, William Eugene, Jr., and Mary Louise. The couple moved frequently in the early years of their marriage, living in the states of Washington, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Iowa. In Iowa they lived in Iowa City, Corydon, and Greenfield before moving to Clarinda in 1966. In addition to being a devoted wife and loving Mother, Eloise was often employed in her younger years as a business accounting clerk. In Greenfield she began her career as a librarian, first in the public library then as the Greenfield High School librarian. She was the Clarinda High School librarian from 1966 to her retirement in the mid 1980s. From 1966 to 2007, Eloise lovingly and capably cared for Bill, her husband, as he lived with his multiple sclerosis. A life-long member of the Methodist Church, Eloise enjoyed being active in church and community activities. She was a member of PEO for over 60 years, serving in several leadership positions. Other activities included regular Bible study and church service groups, the Garden Club, and a founding member of the Glenn Miller Birthplace Society. She loved to play bridge and cribbage, belonging to two bridge clubs, and even was the Clarinda champion cribbage player for one year. One of her lesser known attributes is she was a stamp collector. Eloise enjoyed traveling, both to see family in Oklahoma and across the nation, and with community outings to area sites. She engaged herself in her hometown, and right up to her death she kept herself informed about the people and events in her community. Each year she remembered hundreds of family and friends with a birthday card. Left to cherish Eloise's memory are son William Eugene Poston, Jr. and wife Colleen of Madison, WI; daughter Mary Louise Benson and husband Byron of Overland Park, KS; seven grandchildren: Dr. Stephanie Page and husband Evan of Overland Park, KS; Melanie Benson of Raleigh, NC; Capt. Bryce Benson and wife Heather of Travis AFB, CA; Lauren Benson of Overland Park, KS; Kevin Poston and wife Jennifer of Lannon, WI; Tanya Kraege and husband Chuck of Madison, WI; Michael Poston and wife Maria Rusert of Atlanta, GA; great grandchildren: Joshua, Jonah, Conner, Tyler, and Elliana (Ella) Poston; Ahzhaylia Lofdahl; Alexis Eloise, Ryan, and Kylie Page; Madelyn and Isaac Benson; sister Mary Nash and husband Capt. Norman of Alexandria, VA; sister Emilie Fulton of Sugar Land, TX; brother-in-law T.C. (Dode) Poston and wife Marjean of Corydon, Iowa. Preceding Eloise in death were her husband, parents, and twin sister Louise Mott. Eloise will be missed by her family and friends. We find comfort because of her faith in Lord Jesus as her Savior and celebrate that through God's Grace she is now in Heaven.
