Description	:	Elrod Kaufman, 79, passed away on January 9, 2020 at Oakview Terrace in Freeman. He was born February 4, 1940 to Chris T. and Adeline (Preheim) Kaufman. He attended Diamond Valley School and graduated from Freeman Academy in 1958. He was baptized at Salem Mennonite Church by Rev. J. Herbert Fretz and remained a faithful member for the rest of his life. Elrod married Harriet Mueller on September 25, 1960. Read More	Elrod Kaufman, 79, passed away on January 9, 2020 at Oakview Terrace in Freeman. He was born February 4, 1940 to Chris T. and Adeline (Preheim) Kaufman. He attended Diamond Valley School and graduated from Freeman Academy in 1958. He was baptized at Salem Mennonite Church by Rev. J. Herbert Fretz and remained a faithful member for the rest of his life. Elrod married Harriet Mueller on September 25, 1960. After serving a two year term of 1-W Service, they returned to his family home to farm. He had many interests, including classic cars, collecting stamps, coins and arrowheads. But his special pastimes were playing pinochle with family and friends and listening to classical music, especially opera. We remember him for his patience, determination and gentle spirit. Elrod is survived by his wife Harriet, daughters Jill Whittington of Caldwell, ID and Sue (Jeff) Higgins of Boise, ID and son Don of Freeman, SD; granddaughters Jessica (Scott)Gamble of Caldwell, ID and Amy (Nathan) Cornell of Nampa, ID; great-grandchildren Austin Cornell, Aubrey, Ruby, and baby Gamble on the way; siblings Orvis Kaufman of Oakland, CA and Iris (Max) Shaw of Milford, OH; sister-in-law Maxine Ortman (Delmar) of Marion, SD: and brother-in-law Bruce Mueller of Sioux Falls, SD. Preceding him in death were his parents, sister-in-law Elva Mueller, niece Tracy Jo Mueller and nephews Wade and Lane Shaw. A Celebration of Life service was held at Salem Mennonite Church, Freeman, South Dakota on February 1, 2020 with pastors Nicholas Detweiler-Stoddard and Robert Engbrecht presiding.
