Read More	Former Hotchkiss, Colorado resident, Elroy Elton Hyatt, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2015, at Eagle Ridge of Grand Valley Care Center, in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was 90 years of age. Elroy Hyatt, was born on March 24, 1924, in Merna, Nebraska, to Elvin J. and Alvoria (Beals) Hyatt. After his mother passed away, he came to Colorado with his father, sister, and brother. He attended school in Delta and Hotchkiss. In 1942, he joined the United States Army, and served with the 2nd Armoured "Hell on Wheels" division, as a forward observer in Europe. He took part in the "Battle of the Bulge". He was honorably discharged, in November 1945, and returned to Hotchkiss, where he started painting and paperhanging, with his father. He served in the Colorado National Guard, from 1947 to 1958, and was a member of the Denver Honor Guard Precision team, for a number of years. He married Anna May Penland, on December 1, 1946. He and his wife, moved to Brighton, Colorado, in 1950, where he worked as a painter and paperhanger. In 1956, he and his family moved to Ft. Lupton, Colorado, and he started his own contracting business. In 1962, he moved with his family to Gunnison, Colorado, to be employed as a painter, for Western State College. In 1966, he again went into the contracting business for himself. From 1982-1988, he was employed as a painter and paperhanger, for the Historic Stanley Hotel, in Estes Park, Colorado. He retired in 1988, and he and his wife, returned to Hotchkiss. Elroy enjoyed the warm winters of Arizona, spending many winters at Caliente Casa Del Sol RV Park, near Florence, Arizona. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, of Hotchkiss, and served as a Trustee and Usher, for many years. Elroy was a lifetime member of the Gunnison Elk's, a memorial Board member from 1994 to 2004, and a senior citizen volunteer. He cleaned the stretch of Highway 92, known as "Pig Hill," from 1994 to 2004. Elroy loved to dance, and went often. He also enjoyed cards, golf, pool, bowling, hunting, fishing, and western novels. Elroy is survived by his three sons: Gary Hyatt, of Brighton, CO., Neil Hyatt, of Cheyenne, WY., and Scott Hyatt, of Clifton, CO.; three grandchildren: Jonathan, Zachary and Cherie Christine (Chris); and a brother, Rudy (Mary Lee) Hyatt, of Phoenix, AZ. Elroy was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife; and a sister, Helen Holder King. The family suggests memorial contributions to be made in Elroy's memory, to First Baptist Church, 203 West Main Street, Hotchkiss, Colorado, 81419. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, January 22, 2015, at First Baptist Church, in Hotchkiss, Colorado. Inurnment will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 23, 2015, at Veteran's Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado, in Grand Junction, Colorado.
