She died at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, Thursday, April 29, 1999 at the age of ninety-three. Elsa was born in Burg auf Fehmarn, Germany and was baptized in Christ on September 17, 1905 by Rev. Bielenberg and later confirmed on March 27, 1920 by Rev. Schultz at the St. Nikolai Evangelical Lutheran Church in Burg auf Fehmarn, Germany. She came to America in 1922 and lived with her sister, Dora in Schleswig for two years, before her marriage to Edward P. Jepsen on September 24, 1924 at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Denison, Iowa by Rev. Frehse. The couple settled on the family farm east of Charter Oak and later purchased a farm northwest of Charter Oak. They remained living on the family farm until they retired and moved into Charter Oak in 1970. Elsa moved to Eventide in March of 1993, due to failing health. Elsa was a devoted member of St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak, their Ladies Aid and the Charter Oak Clubettes. She was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother. Elsa enjoyed crocheting, working in her vegetable and flower gardens and spiritual music. In her leisure time she enjoyed polka music and socializing in a game of cards. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward in 1973, one daughter, Delores in 1929, one great-grandson, Edward Jepsen in 1994, one son-in-law, Bob Flink, one brother, Fred, and two sisters, Dora Jepsen and Anna Heinrick. Survivors include three sons, Edward F. Jepsen and his wife, Dorothy of Charter Oak, Arnold Jepsen and his wife, Florence of Schleswig and Freddie Jepsen and his wife, Shirleen of Charter Oak; three daughters, Norma Henningsen and her husband, Marlo of Denison, Leanna Hopp and her husband, Donald of Charter Oak and Marjorie Flink of Lincoln, Nebraska; twenty-five grandchildren and forty-three great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lillian Beeck of Denison; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 3, 1999, at the St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. L.C. Gebhardt officiated the service and graveside rites held at the Morgan Cemetery, Schleswig, Iowa. Art Beeck provided the service music of "Going Home" and "On Eagles Wings" and congregational hymn, "Nearer, My God, To Thee". Those serving as pallbearers were Christian Johnson Jr., Dan Henkenius, Dennis G. Jepsen, Rodney Flink, John Jepsen and Troy Hopp. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to return to the church and join them in fellowship and lunch, served by the Ladies Aid.
