When twelve years of age she moved to Ohio and eight years later she was married to Dr. Cyrus Elwood. There were born of their union seven children, four sons and three daughters, of whom three sons and one daughter survive. Read More	Obituary-The Oakdale Sentinel-December 16, 1893 ELSIE DUFF ELWOOD Elsie Duff was born in Virginia, May 3, 1819 and died at her home in Oakdale, Nebraska, December 13, 1893. When twelve years of age she moved to Ohio and eight years later she was married to Dr. Cyrus Elwood. There were born of their union seven children, four sons and three daughters, of whom three sons and one daughter survive. In 1868 the family moved to Nebraska and a year later her husband, Dr Elwood died. In 1872 Mrs ELWOOD made her home in Oakdale where she resided until her death. The deceased was a fond mother and a Christian woman. Surrounded by near and dear ones she died a peaceful and happy death expressing during her last hours her gladness to "go home to God." The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon in the Presbyterian Church of which the deceased was one of the first members where the remains were taken and where a large concourse of sympathizing friends gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed one. The services were conducted by Rev. V. F. Partch, and all that was mortal of Mrs Elwood was laid to rest in the Oakdale Cemetery. The bereaved has the sympathy of the entire community. ========== DISCREPANCY: If Elsie was born in 1819 and moved to Ohio when she was 12, then presumably her parents came to Ohio abt 1831. The marriage record for Cyrus Elwood and Elsie Duff in Highland Co, OH, is from 20 Sept 1843. That doesn't quite fit with the bio, which says she came to Ohio and married 8 years later, which would put the marriage in abt 1839. If she wasn't married until 1843, she was presumably still with her parents (whatever their names were) in the 1840 Federal Census. In the 1850 census she was listed as "Eliza," age "38." The latter wuld make her born about 1812 instead of 1819. Both Thomas Duff and Silas Duff were heads of families on the same page of the 1840 Federal Census, Fairfield Twp, Highland Co, OH.
