Last rites were solemnized at the Seventh-day Adventist church in Beach on Wednesday, April 24, at 2 p.m., with Pastor R.E. Jansen officiating. Special music was provided by Don Schroeder and Mrs. Leone Quast, accompanied by Mrs. George Underwood. Pallbearers were Joseph Johnstone, Donald Hathaway, Ronald Johnston, Hugh Ross, Arthur Underwood and Charles Smith. Interment was in the Beach Cemetery. Many Beach business places closed during the hour of the last rites, as a mark of respectt for one of this community’s best-liked citizens. Surviving Mrs. Kannenberg are her husband, Frank, three sons, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, five nieces and nine nephews, and two sisters and many friends. Elsie Amanda (Olesen) was born Sept. 6, 1896 at Graettinger, Iowa to Emma Evangeline (Barringer) and Jens "James" Olesen. When she was 9, her mother remarried to her stepfather Judson Adryron Reicheneker. She came to Golden Valley County at the age of 17 with her mother, Mrs. Emma Reichenecker and sister Evelyn in 1904, from St. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. Reichenecker filed on a homestead two and a half miles north of Beach, where her son Kenneth now lives. Later they were joined by their married sister, Mrs. Ada Wilson. Still later, Amanda homesteaded north of Sentinel Butte. On Aug. 30, 1911, Amanda Reichenecker was married to Frank L. Kannenberg at Beach, with the three children mentioned previously being born to them. Beach was little more than a dot on the map when Mrs. Kannenberg came; there wasn’t even a depot at that early date. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Beach. During the 59 years Mrs. Kannenberg resided here, she saw the county develop and the city of Beach grow, always being an integral part of all the community life and activity, every phase of it being of vital interest and concern to her. These characteristics, plus her devotion to family and friends, will serve as an enduring monument to her memory. The Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
