Read More	Married: Thomas Marvin Samuel..27 Oct 1937 Father: Charles Monroe Goad Mother: Nora Sophina Cruise ~~~~~~~ ELSIE BELL GOAD SAMUEL Wilkesboro--Mrs. Elsie Goad Samuel, 90, of 1510 Overlook Drive, Wilkesboro, and formerly of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday morning at her home. She was born in Carroll County, VA, and moved with her family to Mount Airy in 1922 where she attended Mount Airy city schools and graduated from Mount Airy High School in 1932. After high school, she worked as a nurse for Dr. S.A. Cundiff and following his death, for Dr. Ivan Richard. She married the late Thomas Marvin Samuel on Oct. 27, 1937, and joined her husband's home church, Holly Springs Baptist Church, where she was a dedicated member until her death. She was a past president of Bannertown Elementary School PTA and current member of the VFW Post 2019 Women's Auxiliary and the Mount Airy Senior Citizens Club. She was a member of the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" traveling show that entertained civic and church groups for many years. Mrs. Samuel was an avid Rook player and quilter, having learned the craft from her father, and many of her finest creations have been on display at the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History. Before moving to Wilkesboro to live with her son, Mrs. Samuel was a regular visitor to Twelve Oaks Nursing Home and was an excellent homemaker and cook. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Roy, Otis, Roby, Clyde and Clarence Goad; three sisters, Opal Leftwich, Ethel Seawell and Ossie Douglas. Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Samuel (Dick) Younger of Mount Airy; a son, Joe (Lisa) Samuel of Wilkesboro; grandson, Jordan Samuel of Wilkesboro; granddaughter, Leigh Samuel of Raleigh; and many devoted and loved nieces and nephews. Arrangements are in the care of Moody Funeral Home.
