Description	:	ELSIE C. GROVES ATWELL, 83 of Kennedyville, MD, passed away on March 15, 2012 in her home. Mrs. Atwell was born on January 17, 1929, daughter of the late James Wilson and Helen Silcox Groves. She was raised in Black Station and was a lifetime resident of the Kennedyville area. After graduating from Galena High School in 1946 she began working for Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide and for the DuPont Company as a secretary until her marriage in 1950. She was raised in Black Station and was a lifetime resident of the Kennedyville area. She loved her family and caring for her home. Mrs. Atwell is preceded in death by a sister Emily Groves Wilson. She is survived by her husband of 62 years Clifton Atwell; 2 children, Cathy A. Legg and her husband Frankie of Chestertown, MD and Karen A. Tigner and her husband John B., Jr. of Hartley, DE; a brother, Stuart W. Groves and his wife Catherine of Kennedyville; 2 grandchildren, Michael F. Legg and his wife Erin and Angela R. Gooden and her husband James; 2 great-grandchildren, Wesley J. Gooden and Elizabeth L. "Ellie" Legg; numerous nieces and nephews, and Edward A. Sterling, whom she helped raise and his wife Edith. Friends may call on Sunday, March 18 from 2 to 4 pm in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD, where funeral service will be held on Monday, March 19 at 2pm. Burial in Kennedyville Cemetery. Memorials may be offered to Chester River Home Care and Hospice, Kennedyville Cemetery Fund or Kennedyville Vol. Fire Company c/o the Galena Funeral Home.
