She married Asa Franklin Horton on Feb. 20,... Read More	Elsie Marie Lefler was born to William Edgar Dingman and Eva Louiza Wullbrandt Dingman on June 17, 1914, at Clear Lake, S.D. She passed away on July 19, 1998, at the Fairview Manor in Fairmont, at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 2 days of age. She was one of five children in the family. At the age of two, she and her family moved to Exeter. She attended rural District No. 91 and graduated from the Exeter High School with the Class of 1931. She married Asa Franklin Horton on Feb. 20, 1938. Two daughters, Donna Marie and Betty Ruth, were born to this marriage. The family moved from Exeter primarily due to health reasons, and Elsie spent most of her life in the communities of Caldwell, Idaho, Exeter and Fairmont. Elsie was living in Caldwell, Idaho, when Asa died on March 31, 1962, and in 1964, Elsie returned to Nebraska. On April 2, 1964, she married Claude Arthur Lefler in Fairmont where she lived until her death. She was baptized at an early age in the Congregational church in Exeter, attended and joined other churches wherever she lived. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Caldwell and joined the Fairmont Federated Church in 1964, where she enjoyed worshipping, working and serving on many committees in the church. She was a homemaker, rural school teacher, grocery store clerk and receptionist for Memorial Vault Company. Her memberships and club activity included the Fairmont Senior Center, where she was a board member, the Escelsiar Extension Club, Sunshine Circle of the Fairmont Community Church and the Goldenrod Kensington. She volunteered her help with the Fairmont Historical Society, Fairview Manor and the Fairmont Public Library. She was a gracious host and kind and quiet person who enjoyed competitive card playing, gardening, sewing, quilting and making crafts. Time spent socializing with relatives and friends was always a special occasion for her. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, William and Eva Louiza Dingman; daughter, Donna Dixon, husbands, Asa F. Horton and Claude A. Lefler; brothers, Charles Frederick and Louis E. Dingman; sister, Ethel Naomi Schafer. She is survived by daughter, Betty White and friend, Earl Sequare of Houston, Texas; step-son, Glen Lefler and his wife, Ellen of Lincoln, step-daughter, Donna Shaw and husband, Jerry of Lincoln; sister, Norma Barney and husband, Allen of Bradshaw, sisters-in-law, Margaret Dingman of Grand Junction, Colo., and Gladys Lefler of Fairmont; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday July 22, 1998 from the Fairmont Community Church with Rev. Laura Bartels officiating. Dee Swartz accompanied Kelly Eich, who sang "In the Garden" and "Precious Lord, Take My Hand." Casket bearers were Bill Cudaback, Gene Nichols, Marvin Roper, Kenneth Swartz, Marvin Swartz and Don West. Interment was in the Fairmont Public Cemetery.
