Elsie was born in Boone, Iowa, on July 3, 1948, the daughter of Oscar and Mary (Redmon) Keeney. She graduated from Boone High School in 1966 and on May 5, 1968, Elsie married Richard Claring in Madison County, South Dakota. The couple later divorced. Elsie was born in Boone, Iowa, on July 3, 1948, the daughter of Oscar and Mary (Redmon) Keeney. She graduated from Boone High School in 1966 and on May 5, 1968, Elsie married Richard Claring in Madison County, South Dakota. The couple later divorced. Elsie attended Boone Junior College and graduated from DMACC in Boone in 1992 with an Accounting Specialist Degree. From 1982 to 1990, she worked as a clerk in the medical records department and the switchboard at Boone County Hospital. From 1995 to present, Elsie was employed in the accounting department at Quality Inn in Ames. For many years, Elsie volunteered at the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad in the gift shop. She enjoyed reading, being on Facebook, watching movies, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandson. She was a member of Phi Beta Lambda and in earlier years, she volunteered for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Elsie is preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter Mari Claring, a son Keith Claring, and a brother Daniel Keeney. She is survived by two sons William Claring of Boone and Christopher Claring and wife Nicole of Ankeny; a sister Mary Diersen and husband Lowell of Boone; three granddaughters, Naykia Claring of Keosauqua, Kassandra Claring of Ankeny, and Christine Briggs and husband Josh of Ankeny; and a great grandson, Dale Briggs.
