Elsie Rosina Frank was born May 11, 1926, near Dodge, to Phillip and Ottillie (Weidner) Frank. She attended rural school. Her family moved south of Beulah where she grew up. She met her future husband here, who worked as a hired hand. Elsie's mother died when Elsie was just 9 years old and her father died when she was about 21. Despite her difficult situation during the Depression years with no mother and eight brothers and sisters, she always felt blessed and maintained a positive attitude. She had a strong faith and was so proud of her father who played an active role in organizing the Lutheran church near their home south of Beulah. On June 26, 1947, Elsie married Godfred Pfennig. They lived in Beulah until 1961, when they moved south of Beulah to the Pfennig homestead. Elsie enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, canning and was ever so hospitable. She made friends and neighbors feel welcome and always had something delicious for her guests to eat. Godfred and her also enjoyed dancing and loved to play whist. They valued family and were very encouraging to their three children. Elsie walked her walk and was kind to everyone. We will miss her friendly smile and her notorious method of claiming each of her grandchildren as her favorite. She knew we were on to her, but she said it was true. They sold the farm in 2010 and shortly thereafter moved into the Marian Manor in Glen Ullin. Godfred passed away in September 2010. Elsie is survived by her children, Larry (Deb) Pfennig, Mandan, Eileen Wehri, Bismarck, and Leland (Tammy) Pfennig, Hazen seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Elmer Frank and Wilbert (Bernice) Frank; one sister, Hilda Flegel; five sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Godfred; siblings, Walter, Irene, Edwin, Emil and Erna; one son-in-law, Melvin Wehri; and three nieces and three nephews. Arrangements conducted by Barbot-Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
