Description	:	Elsie was born Sunday, September 1, 1918, to Frank and Mary (McNeese) Sleep at Hopkins, Missouri. She died at the age of 81 Wednesday, August 16, 2000 at St Joseph Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska, following a brief illness. She attended school in Hopkins, Missouri. Elsie and Frank Clark were united in marriage Thursday, October 5, 1939 at a Henry Fields broadcast and celebration in Shenandoah, Iowa. The couple made their home near her parents' farm in southern Taylor County near Siam, Iowa. After Elsie's father died in 1954 Frank and Elsie took over the farming operation of both the farms.... The couple made their home near her parents' farm in southern Taylor County near Siam, Iowa. After Elsie's father died in 1954 Frank and Elsie took over the farming operation of both the farms. They retired in 1982 following Elsie's mother's death and the couple moved to New Market, Iowa. They again moved, this time in 1985 into Clarinda and have lived the last several years at Foster Manor in Clarinda. Elsie loved to take pictures. Photography, cooking, antiques and the radio were her favorite pastimes. She enjoyed listening to KMA and keeping memories alive with photographs. During the summer months many cousins, including Jerry, Betty, Charles, Linda, Lucy among others, would spend time at the Clarks' farm enjoying farm life and eating Elsie's plentiful cooking. She always cooked enough to fill two tables whatever the occasion. Kids always came and went all summer long at the Clark farm. In 1967 Elsie and Frank adopted James Franklin and brought him to live with them on Frank's 50th birthday. He became their son in December 1967. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, David Clark. She is survived by her husband, Frank; son and daughter-in-law James F. and Annette Clark of Corning; grandchildren, Chris Clark and Sarah Clark, both of Corning. Graveside services were held Saturday, August 19 at Memory Cemetery, New Market, Iowa. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements. CLARINDA HERALD JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Aug 23, 2000
