Description	:	Elsie Osten, 96, of Columbus, died Saturday, June 18, 2011, at the Countryside Home in Madison. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church (12.5 miles north) with Rev. Brad Birtell officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue from 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Elsie Sophia Osten was born June 4, 1915, in rural Platte County to August and Martha (Neemeyer) Fittje. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church and attended St. John's Lutheran School. On Feb. 23, 1938, Elsie was united in marriage to Paul Osten at St. John's. When Paul passed away in 2002, Elsie and Paul had been married 64 years. Elsie was an active member of St. John's, where she served as president, vice-president, and treasurer of LWML, and secretary of WMA. Elsie loved music and became skilled at playing the piano at a young age. When Grace Lutheran Church was started in Platte Center, Elsie and Paul were charter members. Elsie's suggestion of "Grace" as a name for the new congregation was chosen for the final name of the church. Elsie is survived by her daughter, Lowene (Roland) Rosendahl, of Columbus; son, Warren Osten, of Gulfport, Fla.; grandchildren, Scot (Kristin) Johnson, of Urbandale, Iowa, Deanne (Leonardo) Marino, of Rockville, Md., Troy (Ann) Osten, of Marriottsville, Md., Marc (Kendra) Osten, of Anchorage, Alaska, Jamie (Ted) Hoke, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Pauline Clayton, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Blair Osten, currently stationed in Iraq; and 19 great grandchildren. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, August and Martha Fittje, husband, Paul Osten, sister, Adele Muhsman, son-in-law, Kim Johnson.
