Description	:	Elsie Emanuel, 89, of Dodge, formerly of North Bend, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at Parkview Home in Dodge. She was born Aug. 7, 1921, in rural Howells to Joseph and Pauline (Hajek) Vacha. She grew up on a farm near Howells and graduated from Howells High School. She attended Wayne State College. She grew up on a farm near Howells and graduated from Howells High School. She attended Wayne State College. She taught school for six years in rural schools in Cuming, Colfax and Dodge counties in Nebraska. She married Eugene J. Emanuel on Jan. 6, 1944, in Dodge. After her marriage, the couple farmed 3 miles west of Webster in Dodge County. They retired in 1987 and moved to North Bend. She had been residing at Parkview Home in Dodge since 2008. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend and a member and past president of St. Anne's Altar Society. She was a member and served as president and secretary of the Omaha Archdiocese Council of Catholic Women and received the Mullen Award as the Outstanding Woman of the Omaha Archdiocese Council of Catholic Women. She also served as secretary of the OACCW. She was a member of Christian Mothers at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge. Survivors include: her husband; six sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Maria Emanuel of Beemer, Joseph and Bonita Emanuel of Hartington, Eugene E. and Kimberly Emanuel of Monticello, Minn., Kevin and Kathryn Emanuel of Osceola, Iowa, Chad and Cheryl Emanuel of Waukee, Iowa, and Roch and Diane Emanuel of North Bend; five daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Anthony Wiese of Dodge, Dorothy and Leo Showers of Lincoln, Mary and Dean Von Seggern of Scribner, Sandra and Lee Blaha of Dodge and Denise and Glen Temple of Sioux City, Iowa; three sisters, Pauline Vrbicky and Agnes (and husband, Ervin) Brabec, all of Clarkson, and Wilma Bolte of North Bend; 30 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bohumil "Bud" Vacha and Joe Vacha and two sisters, Emma Gaughen and Anna Ritzdorf. The funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend with the Revs. Donald Cleary and Frank Dvorak officiating. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Friday and 9-10 a.m. Saturday, all at the church. An Altar Society rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Friday and another rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, both at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Ridgeley, near Scribner. Memorials are suggested to the St. Charles Catholic Church, North Bend or to St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
