DEATH CLAIMED GARWIN SOLDIER ELLSWORTH BOND DIED FRIDAY NIGHT AT KANSAS CITY ILLNESS BRIEF Funeral Services Were Held from Garwin Park Tuesday Afternoon— Over 1,000 Were in Attendance— Burial in Garwin Cemetery Ellsworth Bond, who enlisted a little over two weeks ago and entered the Rahe Auto and Tractor school at Kansas City for a two mouths’ training, died Friday night. Just two weeks after his enlistment. Pneumonia complicated with infection from vaccination caused his death. The funeral services were held from the Garwin park Tuesday afternoon a t 2 o'clock with Rev. L. F. Hurley in charge assisted by Rev. Long and Rev. Miller. The school children sang “The Vacant Chair" and "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" and "It is Well with my Soul" were rendered by a mixed quartet. A bugler from Camp Dodge stood guard over the body. It Is estimated that nearly a thousand people attended the funeral to pay their last tributes to the "soldier boy.” The floral offerings were many and beautiful. The body was interred in the Garwin cemetery where the Camp Dodge bugler sounded taps. Ellsworth Bond was born in Garwin, February 2, 1894. His education was received In the Garwin public school. He enlisted April 5, and was taken sick April 13, dying just two weeks after enlistment. It was the only serious illness in his life. Young Bond was never a member of any church; but confessed his faith during his last illness and was baptized. He is one of a family of twelve children and was the son of Frank Bond. Three brothers and two sisters died in infancy. Four sisters, Hetty, Elsie, Rosie and Maretta and two half-brothers, Albert and Charlie, still remain to mourn their loss.
