Description	:	Oelwein Daily Register 26 Oct 1965 Mrs. Elta Kappas was born at Lena, Ill., on Aug. 22, 1881, a daughter of Alfonso and Harriett Armagost Howard. She died at Oelwein Mercy Hospital on Sat., Oct. 16, 1965 from complications following a fall in her home late the evening before. She grew up in Lena, Ill. and taught school there five years prior to her marriage in 1905 to Valentine Kappas. She died at Oelwein Mercy Hospital on Sat., Oct. 16, 1965 from complications following a fall in her home late the evening before. She grew up in Lena, Ill. and taught school there five years prior to her marriage in 1905 to Valentine Kappas. Following her marriage she moved to Oelwein with her husband who was employed at the Chicago Great Western Railway. She lived in Oelwein for 60 years at the time of her death. Her husband died in 1934. She made her home in recent years with her daughter, Harriett, an only child, who survives. Other survivors are several nephews and nieces. Mrs. Kappas was a long time member of Grace Methodist church and the Woman's Society of Christian Service. Memorial services were at Brant Funeral Home on Monday afternoon with the Rev. E. Morris Egeland officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Casket bearers were: Mike Loban, Walter Opperman, M. M. Frame, Lyle Renfrow, John Greco, and Bruce Ward.
