Funeral services for Mrs. Monticue were held Thursday afternoon at the Methodist Church at 2:30 with the Rev. King of Ashland officiating. Mrs. Boyd King and Mrs. Albert Holler sang two hymns with Mrs. Lewis Hopkins at the organ. The pall bearers were T.G. Lindsay, W.J. Lehman, Claude Rowland, Ben Christopher, W.T. Maris and Edgar Deek. Interment was made in Protection Cemetery following the rites at the church. Peacock Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Monticue passed away unexpectedly about 4 o'clock... Mrs. Monticue passed away unexpectedly about 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at her home. She had been ill the past several weeks following a stroke, part of the time at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Foy Cosby in Kiowa but was brought home a week ago Monday and Mrs. Cosby had been caring for her here. Tuesday afternoon she felt able to get up and move around a little, but soon sat down in a chair and passed away almost immediately. The obituary will appear in next week's Protection Post. MONTICUE Elva Irene Lasley, daughter of William and Abigail Lasley, was born in Schuyler County, MO March 3, 1882 and departed this life at her home in Protection, KS Tuesday, August 10, 1948. She was united in marriage to Gideon Gilgax March 27, 1901. To this union were born one son, William Gilgax, of Milo, MO; two daughters, Bessie who passed away in 1910 and Mabel Cosby of Kiowa, KS. She joined the Baptist Church at Grand Junction, CO, later changing her membership to the First Baptist Church of Protection, KS. She was united in marriage to W.C. Monticue on May 22, 1920 in Protection, KS. She was devoted to her family and when health permitted, was active in the Baptist Church and the Rebekah Lodge. Besides her husband, son and daughter, she is survived by two step-daughters, Audrey Fowler of Borger, TX and Marie Lewis of Bonita, AZ, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild, one brother and three sisters.
