Description	:	Born in Elgin, Iowa on April 28, 1920, she was the daughter of William and Marie (Grimm) Butikofer. As a young child the family moved to Taylor, MO where she graduated from LaGrange High School on May 13, 1937. She was baptized in the Oakville Apostolic Christian Church on January 6, 1939. Prior to her marriage she was employed in Chicago and Quincy, Illinois. On January 21, 1951, Elva was united in marriage to Paul A. Gerst in Taylor, MO. They made their home on a farm in the Oakville bottoms, and raised four sons. She had a large garden,... Read More	Born in Elgin, Iowa on April 28, 1920, she was the daughter of William and Marie (Grimm) Butikofer. As a young child the family moved to Taylor, MO where she graduated from LaGrange High School on May 13, 1937. She was baptized in the Oakville Apostolic Christian Church on January 6, 1939. Prior to her marriage she was employed in Chicago and Quincy, Illinois. On January 21, 1951, Elva was united in marriage to Paul A. Gerst in Taylor, MO. They made their home on a farm in the Oakville bottoms, and raised four sons. She had a large garden, and many flowers gave color to the farmstead. Paul preceded her in death on December 4, 2001. She continued to live in her own home until November 2019, when she went to Wapello Specialty Care. Elva was instrumental in starting World Relief in the Oakville Church. Many crocheted small balls were sent overseas. She enjoyed quilting for others and her family. Those left to cherish her memory are her children: William (Judy) of Mediapolis; Joseph (Connie) of Delhi; Walt (Nola) of Mediapolis; and Charles (Charlene) of Morning Sun; nine grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, and many extended families. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Joel and Edward Butikofer; sister, Ruth Cottrell/Moser; two granddaughters and one grandson. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2022, at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Mediapolis. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the Apostolic Christian Church in Mediapolis. Ministers of the Church will officiate. A visitation at the church will precede the funeral from 9:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. Interment will be held at the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery in Oakville. Memorials may be directed to HarvestCall in memory of Elva. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.
