Elva was a secretary for Western Tablet in St. Joseph, Sunflower Creamery in Everest, worked as a clerk for Eyer Food Market, Head Cook for the Everest Rural Schools and U.S.D. #430 South Brown County, secretary for the City of Topeka Health Department, Seamstress for the Horton Garment Factory, teller for the Union State Bank of Everest and secretary for Gary Coder Chevrolet before retiring. She was a member of the Everest Christian Church, Christian Women's Fellowship, Everest American Legion Auxiliary, Hiawatha Elks Club and the Bun-co Club. Survivors include two daughters, Sue Padilla of Newton, Iowa and Jane & husband Byron Parsons of Leavenworth, KS; sister, Mary Ann Moore of Atchison, KS; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Krumins, Matthew Padilla, Kendall Parsons and Maggie Parsons and three great grandchildren, Lucas Padilla, Katie Krumins and Gavin Padilla. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother, George L. Grimes. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, KS, where the family will greet friends on Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Elva Oaks memorial fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
