She will be remembered at a memorial service at the Ocee Johnson Chapel at St. John's Lutheran Nursing Home at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, and at a funeral mass at Our Lady of Lourdes in Great Falls at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, with a Celebration of Life Friday evening, Dec. 17. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Smith Funeral Chapel in Billings and Schnider Funeral Home in Great Falls. She is survived by her children, Shirley (Ken) Dinsmore of Lewistown, Sharon (Ken) Sides of Coburg, Ore., Arlene (Fred) McIntyre of Ukiah, Calif., Aaron (Alta) McLaughlin of Vancouver, Wash., Patrick (Nancy) McLaughlin of Ellensburg, Wash., Mike (Ruth) McLaughlin of Great Falls, Mark (Diane) McLaughlin of Billings; and by her brothers, Donald Schenck of Helena, Aaron Schenck of Missoula; and sisters June Lind of Great Falls and Arlene Priest of Billings; 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas "Don" McLaughlin; a daughter, Elizabeth Bell; a son, Thomas McLaughlin; granddaughters Linda Excel and Kelly McKeown; brothers Ed Schenck and Melvin Schenck; and sister Emma Thomas. Elvera was born Nov. 26, 1912, in Great Falls, to Carl and Emma Schenck. She grew up in Neihart and attended school there and graduated from Great Falls High School in 1929. She worked as a stenographer at Stone Ordean Wells, and at Woolworth's. On May 22, 1932, she married Don, with whom she made a home in Portland, Ore., and in Great Falls. Don passed away in 1957. She was active in Camp Fire and in the Rebekah Lodge. She was a Past Noble Grand of both the Great Falls Myrtle Rebekah Lodge and the Tacoma lodge. In addition to being a homemaker, Elvera worked for many years with the Great Falls Council of Camp Fire Girls. Following her husband's death, she worked for Howard and Brower food distributor as office manager. She moved to Billings to work for Nalley's Foods and later transferred to the main office in Tacoma, where she worked as a cost accountant. She retired in 1978. Elvera returned to Billings, where she enjoyed attending Billings High School events and community events with her sister Arlene, and spending time with her children and their families. She was an avid reader and latch hook rug maker. She moved to St. John's Home, where she lived for the past four years following a stroke.
