A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, February 24, 2017 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Hannover, ND with Reverend Russell Fitch officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, with a prayer service at 6 pm. Elvera Dolores (Letzring) Hintz was born July 9, 1929 to Alvin and Louise (Matthiesen) Letzring at the Letzring farm at Churchtown, near Rosebud, ND. Elvera taught at a country school before marrying Waldo W. Hintz on October 3, 1953 at Churchtown. The couple farmed north of New Salem and in 1965 moved to their home in Center. Known locally as a talented artist, from a very early age, Elvera loved to draw, especially horses. She completed a correspondence course with Art Instruction Schools while raising small children and continued painting her entire life. Her watercolor depictions of horses, North Dakota life, and nature earned the honor of being hung in the Governor's mansion several times. In addition, her paintings were selected for both the ND Centennial and the Hazen Centennial calendars. She has exhibited in both local and western U.S. art shows, winning numerous ribbons and awards and has many paintings in private collections. Her hobbies included measuring and reporting precipitation for the ND Atmospheric Resource Board for 25 years and spending time sewing, reading, gardening, and taking lots of photographs. Elvera was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Hannover, ND where she and Waldo both enjoyed singing in the choir. Blessed to have shared her life are six children, Leatha Hoffman (Bob Agnew), Golden Valley, MN; Leone (David) Percival, Mandan, ND; Allen (Lori) Hintz, Mandan, ND; Nathan (Kimberly) Hintz, Auburn WA; Leslie (Rhonda) Hintz, Hazen, ND; and Karene (Raymond) Hall, Center, ND; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman (Lee) Letzring; 4 sisters, Marlyn Bornemann, Lyla Helmenstein, Ellen (Jim) Hagel, and Donna (Yatsin) Berger; and one sister-in-law, Marvel (Roger) Klingenstein. Elvera was preceded in death by her parents; husband Waldo in 1999; an infant brother Norbert; 2 brothers-in-law, Bert Helmenstein and Earl Bornemann; and a sister-in-law, Mae Ann Letzring.
