Read More	Elvin Bennett Ritcey 1997 Halifax Herald Elvin Bennett Ritcey, 72, Halifax, died Wednesday, May 21, 1997, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Infirmary Site. Born in Riverport, Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late Stanford and Effie Mae (Dares) Ritcey. He was an avid hockey and baseball player and a member of the volunteer fire department in Lunenburg. He worked for National Sea, Lunenburg, and continued with the company when he moved to Halifax. He then worked for Metro Transit as a bus driver and retired as an inspector after over 35 years of service. Following retirement, he was the custodian of Birch Cove United Baptist Church for the past eight years. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Tanner Knickle); daughters, Vicki, Halifax; Margaret (Mrs. David Byrne); son, Donald and wife Paula and grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda, all of Trenton, Ontario; sister, Joyce (Mrs. Michael Benteau), Blockhouse. He was predeceased by daughter, Sylvia Grady; half-brother, Cecil Dares. Funeral service will be today, May 24, at 10 a.m. in Birch Cove United Baptist Church, Halifax, Rev. John Porter officiating. The body will then be taken to Central United Church, Lunenburg, for visitation from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m., Rev. Robert Zinck officiating. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. Family flowers only. In lieu, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Birch Cove United Baptist Church or to a charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to Snow's Funeral Home, Halifax.
