His funeral will be Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Doland. Pastor Peter M. Utecht will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Elvin was born March 2, 1920, to Rasmus and Marie (Rasmussen) Paulson on a farm near Erwin, S.D. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at West Bethany Lutheran Church near Erwin. He attended country school at Happy Hollow School. After finishing the eighth grade, he farmed with his father. Elvin married Lena Bau June 28, 1943, in Frankfort. Elvin served in the United States Army from May 1945 until September 1946. After he returned home, Elvin and Lena bought a farm near Spirit Lake in Kingsbury County, S.D. and farmed there for ten years. During their years on the farm, Elvin was a member of the school board of Larson School District #7 for several years. In 1956, after Elvin suffered a heart attack, they sold their farm and move to Frankfort. In 1957, he began operating Al's Standard Service, spent the next 10 years in the gas station business. Elvin returned to farming near Raymond for a number of years. Following the death of their son, Floyd in 1991, Elvin and Lena operated Floyd's Grocery for a short time before Lena's death in 1995. Elvin served as a Boy Scout Leader and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and a life member of the American Legion. Elvin is survived by his son Delbert Paulson of Raymond; two daughters: Ellen (Robert) Opie of Tracy, Calif.; and Nancy (James) Hutson of Tulare; five grandchildren: Tammy Gascoigne, Jody (Tom) Gunther, Joe (Angie) Paulson, Heather (Akiva) Feinstein and Gretchen Opie, 11 grandchildren and two sisters: Violet Wendel and Eleanor Stubbe both of DeSmet. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, one grandson, three brothers and six sisters. Published in the Aberdeen News on 8/22/2005.
