Visitation will begin after 3 p.m. today at St. Patrick's Parish Hall, Dougherty, where a scriptural wake service will be held at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m. Elvira Rooney was born Feb. 13, 1927, at Bellevue, a daughter of John and Hilda (Meier) Biskynis. Elvira graduated as a registered nurse in 1948 from Mercy School of Nursing in Dubuque. She married Ambrose L. Rooney Nov. 4, 1950, at Bellevue. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dougherty, and was involved in various clubs within the community. She was also an active member of Mended Hearts. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and a generous friend and neighbor to all. Survivors include her husband, Ambrose Rooney, Dougherty; seven sons and six daughters, Gary Rooney, Mrs. Merlyn (Marlene) Truax, Mrs. John (Jane) McKee, Jim Rooney and Karen Rooney, all of Sheffield, Tom Rooney, Hampton, Mrs. Doyle (Barb) Butkiewicz, Madison, Wis., Larry Rooney, Pat Rooney and Dan Rooney, all of Rockford, Mrs. Mark (Anne) Chambers, Marble Rock, Mrs. Carl (Sue) Eckenrod, Mason City, and Matt Rooney, Dougherty; one brother, George Biskynis, Houston, Texas; one sister, Darla Yeager, Bellevue; and 22 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son in infancy, Ronald John Rooney, and a very special aunt and uncle, Josie and Fred Cheney. Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, is handling the arrangements.
