Description	:	Elwin George Murray was born in Cass County near Massena on February 3, 1896 to Samuel and Nellie (Hosfelt) Murray. He attended rural school and graduated from Massena High School in 1916. He served in the army during World War I from January 20, 1918 until his discharge on February 20, 1919. Read More	Elwin George Murray was born in Cass County near Massena on February 3, 1896 to Samuel and Nellie (Hosfelt) Murray. He attended rural school and graduated from Massena High School in 1916. He served in the army during World War I from January 20, 1918 until his discharge on February 20, 1919. His occupation was farming. On February 4, 1920 he married Pearl Florence Brisler at the Methodist parsonage in Greenfield. Pearl was the daughter of Dave and Grace (Greenwaldt) Brisler. She was born January 17, 1900 at their farm home east of Massena. She received her education in Massena Township #7 School. After their marriage they lived on a farm three miles south of Massena until 1961, when they purchased a house in Massena and retired from farming. They were the parents of three children - Darlene, and twins, Ronald and Ruth. All three attended the Krauth School Victoria #2 for their elementary education and Massena High School. Darlene graduated in 1938 and attended Iowa State Teachers College and taught rural schools in the area. Ruth and Ronald graduated in 1943. Ruth moved to Omaha and worked at Mutual Benefit Insurance. Ronald farmed and then joined the air force and served until the end of World War II. All family members were members of the Massena Methodist Church, attending Sunday School and youth meetings of MYF. In 1942 Darlene married Elmer Meyer. In 1949 Ronald married Norma J. Anderson and in 1950 Ruth married Richard Reynek. Grandchildren born to this family circle were: Dean, Diane, and Gary Meyer; Richard and Steven Murray; and Linda, Richard Jr., Sharon, Larry, and Sandra Reynek. On September 15, 1961 a car accident took the life of Elwin. Richard Murray's death occurred in August 1980. The marriages and births of Elwin and Pearl's grandchildren have added 15 great-grandchildren to their family.
