He had been living with his daughter, Sheryl, and her family in Born on Sept. 21, 1924 in Glover, Vt., he was the son of George and Nellie (Scott) Jenness. Elwin married Evelyn M. Russell on Sept. 26, 1948 in Long Lake. Mr. Jenness was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1943 to 1946 on the USS Endicott in the Atlantic, Pacific and Mediterranean Sea. He moved to New York from Vermont and worked with the U.S. Bobbin Company, and later worked building the dams along the Raquette River for the Raquette River Construction Company. He was a resident of Long Lake for more than 58 years. He worked for 40 years for the Torrington Construction Company before retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Mount Sabattis Masonic Lodge for 53 years and past master of the lodge and past grand district deputy. He was also one of the founding members and past president of the Moonlighters Snowmobile Club. He and his sister, Dorothy, worked each year at the snowmobile races. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and in later years cooking and baking pies for his family. He is survived by four children: Jeff and his wife, Lori of Dekalb Junction, Sylvia Kelly and her husband, Chris of Terryville, Conn., James Jenness of San Antonio, Texas and Sheryl Madden and her husband, Michael of Saranac Lake; one sister, Dorothy Parmelee and her husband, Sam of Tupper Lake; two brothers: Ken and his wife, Ruby of Morgan, Vt. and Walter and his wife, Joyce of Derby, Vt.; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; five sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law: Shirley Todd of Torrington, Conn., Edith Russell of Syracuse, Thelma and Jose Barros of Houston, Texas, Beverly Stenglein of Long Lake and Farrand and Marie Russell of Altamont. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife on Oct. 1, 1993; three brothers: Richard, Harold “Pete” and Ray; one sister, Irene Connelly; one sister-in-law, Lynette Russell; and two brothers-in-law: Eldridge and Arthur Russell. Calling hours will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 19 at the Fortune-Keough-Rennell Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20 at the Long Lake Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gil Ott officiating. Burial will follow at Long Lake Cemetery in Long Lake.
