E. Eppelsheimer. Pallbearers were Carl Knapp of Ringsted, Merle Kerns of Britt, LeRoy Simonson, Ralph Larson and C. E. Eppelsheimer of Rolfe and Wayne Henderson of Plover. Burial was in Powhatan cemetery at Plover with the Streit Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Elwood Donald Nunamaker, son of Worth and Hazel Nunamaker, was born April 1, 1920, in Des Moines Township, Pocahontas County, Ia. He was baptized as an infant in the Plover Methodist church, and then later as a youth, he was received into full membership, which he still held at the time of his death. He attended school at Mallard and at Graettinger, from which school he graduated with the class of 1937. On August 16, 1942, Elwood was united in marriage to Marilyn Lorene Miller of Plover. This union was blest by a son, Norman Claude, and a daughter, Donna Carol. Except for the first two years of their marriage which was spent near Pocahontas, the couple lived in the Rolfe community. For almost 16 years Elwood had been an employee of Roy Simonson in his farming operations. His employer had the greatest love and respect for him as a conscientious and reliable helper and friend and he has assured the family that this position will be very difficult to fill. Elwood took pride and a personal interest in his work. Elwood became critically ill on December 14, 1960, and was taken to Palo Alto Memorial hospital in Emmetsburg. After 24 hours there he was rushed to St. Mary’s hospital in Rochester, Minn., where he remained for five and a half weeks and then was flown to the University hospital in Iowa City. He passed away there Sunday night, February 5, 1961. His faithful wife was at his bedside constantly during the entire time of his critical illness. Her aunt, Mrs. Lulu Cowan of Amarillo, Tex., who is a registered nurse, was a constant companion and moral support. Her loving and capable hands ministered to Elwood’s every need. All that was humanly possible was done for him by medical science and skill, but to no avail. He was a loving and faithful husband and a devoted father who was very proud of his children. His greatest delight was in his home and family. He leaves to mourn his untimely passing his wife; his son and daughter who are now 15 and 12 years of age; his father and mother; his sister, Mrs. Arthur Peck of Sioux City; his aged grandmother, Mrs. Elva Nunamaker of the Good Samaritan Home in Pocahontas, also his wife’s parents who loved him as a son. Elwood was held in high esteem by his relatives, neighbors and his many friends. A great many people from near and far attended the rites. It was one of the largest funerals held in Plover for several years. The ladies of the Plover W.S.C.S. served dinner at noon in the church parlors for relatives and friends and lunch in the evening.
